"Can I be Hypnotised"?


Most of us don't even realise we have a subconscious mind, let alone understand it!  I don't remember being taught about it in biology!  

The most common way therapists explain the existence of a subconscious mind is the DRIVING TRANCE!  or HIGHWAY HYPNOSIS!


Think back to that time you were on the motorway and the next thing you know is you are almost at your junction and you have no recollection of the last few miles!  WHO WAS DRIVING?  Don't worry YOU WERE! or at least your subconscious mind was!  Infact a lot of our lives are lived on AUTO PILOT!  Our Subconscious mind stores all learning, Skills, habits and all those bodily functions we don't ever think about, like heart rate, blood pressure and the release of hormones & enzymes. 


So when your conscious mind gets absorbed by something or just gets too fed up to function, your subconscious mind takes over.  Its function is to keep  you Alive & SAFE!   You will probably find your subconscious is a better driver anyway. 


The subconscious is always looking out for ways to make things easier for us!  It looks out for behaviour which is repeating in a predictable manner, so it can take over that function for you.  This happens quickly, as your subconscious is very helpful and quick to learn,  it mimics voluntary behaviour and turns it into habit. Your subconscious notices patterns where it can predict what you would normally do and next thing you are aware of is putting the empty packet in the bin!  Don't put all the blame on your subconscious for those extra pounds!  It was only trying to help!

old habits die hard

No matter how much conscious effort or will power you manage to muster, you wonder why you cant just make a decisions and stop smoking, or chewing our fingers, or the crisps.  Your subconscious mind just isn't listening, whilst you are in the conscious state.  It will just keep repeating its patterns because It doesn't know its doing anything wrong!  So why change?


Role of the Therapist 


The subconscious mind is busy recording like a security camera.  It will continue to do this function and its job of maintaining balance within the body unless a red flag moment occurs, when it sees an opportunity to help you by replaying its old programming.  Otherwise its busy doing its job & ignoring the outside world! Just letting the conscious mind make the descisions for now! 


In order to communicate with the subconscious mind directly, the client is led by the therapist into an altered state of mind known as hypnosis or trance. Its the Therapists role to aid you into the STATE. All hypnosis is really self hypnosis, because you the client are agreeing to enter the state.  The therapist then tests the depth of your hypnosis before beginning to communicate with your subconscious mind in a way that it will accept.  


Different people respond to different language patterns, some prefer direct suggestions whilst others would completely reject this type of communication, and would only tolerate suggestion by inference or metaphor.  The hypnotherapist & Neuro Liguistic Programming Practitioner tests out what's right for each individual, In order to gain access to the levels where suggestion and changes to old programming are most likely to be accepted.

What is Hypnosis Hypnotherapy in Wishaw

Opinions vary on the exact definition of this natural state of mind. It can be described as an overload of message units, allowing bypass of the critical factor of the mind, therefore allowing access to the subconscious mind. But contrary to what many people believe, hypnosis is not always a trance state and is not the same as sleep, even though a person may appear to be sleeping.  Hypnosis is really a natural state of mind and is an important part of every day life.  Whenever our mind wanders, daydreams or is focused on something, such as reading a book, driving a familiar route or engaged in a movie we are actually in a state of hypnosis.  The hypnotic trance state is the result of an alliance between therapist and client, where the client is in complete control of how deeply they allow themselves to go.  You do not give up you will, you stay in control. You can even emerge yourself at any time you wish.  The hypnotherapist is there as your guide, but the change is made by you.All Hypnosis is actually self Hypnosis!


The state will ebb and flow throughout the session, this is completely normal, just as sleep state fluctuates so does hypnosis. sometimes you will be aware of every word the therapist says and at other times you will feel like you have checked out mentally, just aware of words but to absorbed within to bother about them.  


It feels similar to drifting off to sleep at night, that stage when you are not quite awake and not quite asleep.  You may feel a sense of weightlessness or heaviness as all of your muscles relax. Everyone experiences it in their own unique way. 


what happens in a session?

We will sit down & talk, taking a detailed history, noting that some conditions may need for the therapist to write to your doctor. to let them know you are having therapy.  We will answer any questions, or concerns you might have. we will estimate how many sessions to expect.  Then your therapist will then assist you into hypnosis and will begin therapy in the very first session.


After the session you may feel uplifted, lighter and very relaxed. Often change is subtle, as your hypnotherapist will be working with your subconscious mind, and you may just notice a very positive shift in how you are feeling. NLP & Hypnotherapy in Wishaw Lanarkshire.
